Gliding is weather dependent. BUGC will endeavour to keep you informed about the weather just before a planned trip, but it might be useful to check it out yourself: have a look at one of the following sites:
Glidemet - A hub for most useful gliding links, weather and more
Dave Masson - Lasham weather guru (email forecasts available)
London GC forecast
BGGC weather report (by Sid Smith) (lots more links in here!)
Met Office - Bit more advanced - 214 and 215 forcasts.
XC Weather - Good for Wind forecast.

Forecasts on the day or day before are best. 3 days before are useful but can change, a week before provides a general idea i.e. likely wind direction.
Wind direction is crucial. Wind from the West and North-West is great: this means the ridge will be working and longer flights will be possible. Strong winds from the South are bad news and can occasionally mean that there will be no winch launching, even on a sunny day! On these days, launch is by aerotow. It's worth noting that sometimes a bit of local wave is found in a Southerly wind.
